YYJ Rocktographers can’t say enough good things about the Otalith Music Festival in Ucluelet, BC. Want proof? Check out Tyson Elder’s reviews of the 2013 and 2014 festivals respectively on Victoria Music Scene.

Otalith Music Festival runs August 21st and 22nd, 2015 in Ucluelet, BC.

Removed from the influences of Victoria and Vancouver’s mainstream and nestled in the wild west coast town of Ucluelet is a wonderful niche music festival curated by music fans. A diverse and eclectic selection of bands including psychedelic, hip-hop, funk, pop rock, dad rock, indie, and DJ sets are all represented.

There is a certain indescribable vibe that comes with attending Otalith. Maybe it’s the communal bond that you don’t find at huge music festivals, or maybe it’s the great food and beer, but it certainly has something to do with the music.

This year’s festival returns with more of those sultry and heavy modern garage rock sounds that we enjoyed last year with headliners The Black Lips, a band that’s known for its live show with theatrics like RC car races, chickens, vomiting, nudity, and flaming guitars . . . among other things.

Returning favourites include Seattle’s Cave Singers. They’ll actually be playing a private show in Tofino for early bird ticket purchasers, and it’s sold out.

Other notable acts include San Franciscan indie rock duo The Dodos, along with The Coup, Nick Waterhouse, Reverberation RadioJesse Roper, Victoria’s favourite duo Jon & Roy, and many more.

The Ucluelet Campground has partnered with Otalith this year to become the official campground of the festival. There are only 400 camp spots available, and there is only a limited amount still available to be purchased through the festival website. It’s right across the street from the festival and there’s always a party going on there. We don’t expect this year to be any different.
